Therapeutic and Diagnostic Injections

Q. Will it hurt?
A. Some tests are designed to relieve symptoms and others are done to reproduce your symptoms for diagnosis. Body Imaging radiologists are very experienced and skilled, accurately and quickly administering these procedures thus minimizing discomfort.

Q. How long will it take for the injections to take effect?
A. The quality and length of pain relief varies from patient to patient. If the injection reaches the source of your pain you will experience some immediate relief which will generally maximize within 2-5 days after the procedure.

Q. How long will the procedure take?
A. We generally schedule 30-60 minutes for the entire procedure. The actual injection often takes only a few minutes.

Q. Will I be able to return to work or regular activities after the procedure?
A. For most procedures you will be able to return to work if you choose. There are a few examinations that may require you to miss work. Please contact Body Imaging for more information about this.

Q. Do I need to have someone drive me home after the procedure?
A. Your reflexes may be temporarily impaired from the exam or you may experience numbness around the injection site. You may need a driver as a safety precaution. Please make the necessary arrangements ahead of time.

Q. What is being injected during this procedure?
A. The anesthetics used are Lidocaine and Marcaine, both local anesthetics. Celestone Soluspan or Depo-medrol are steroids most commonly used for therapeutic injections. Any potential drug-related side effects will be explained at the time of your exam.
