X-Ray and Fluoroscopy
Q. Are conventional
x-rays safe?
A. X-rays, CT scans, fluoroscopy, and tomography imaging uses
very low dosages of radiation. Your physician makes a judgment
that any theoretical risk is outweighed by the potential benefit
any time he or she orders an x-ray exam.
Q. Do I have to do
anything special prior to my exam?
A. Generally, no preparation is required. However, if your exam
requires a contrast material, some preparation may be necessary.
Instructions will be given at the time of scheduling.
Q. How long will the
exam take?
A. Your exam will take from 20 minutes to an hour depending on
the type of procedure.
Q. Can I take my films
with me after the exam?
A. Your films will be available for you to walk out with after
the radiologist has had a chance to review them. It is only possible
to walk out with your films immediately after your exam at our
Beaverton facility. Films taken at our Tigard facility will be
transferred to Beaverton where they will be read by our radiologist.
After they have been read the films will be available for you
to pick up. Our radiologists have a professional as well as
legal obligation to read all films before they are released.
Q. How long
will it take for me to get my results?
A. At our Beaverton full-service site, studies are read on the day the exam is performed with a report to follow on the next working day. Preliminary results can be faxed to your physician’s office upon request. Those patients wanting to take their films with them immediately following their exam can expect to wait 20-30 minutes while the films are developed and read by our radiologists.
This service is available only at our Beaverton facility.
At the Tigard location, studies provided in the PM only are not read until the following business day.
Your physician will be notified immediately if there are any significant findings. Otherwise, all reports will be faxed/mailed to your physician one business day following your exam.
